  • Academic Credit for Prior Learning Guidelines

    • LCC awards credits for knowledge and skills gained through work and life experience; through military training and experience; and/or through other formal and informal training which aligns with existing courses offered at LCC.
    • Non-traditional credits are only awarded for specific courses taught at Lower Columbia College and must meet the course outcomes.
    • The student must provide evidence-based documentation showing mastery of the course outcomes for credit evaluation.
    • The student will work with the ACPL Coordinator, Registration, and appropriate department/program faculty in which the student is seeking credit.
    • The faculty evaluator will make the final determination on all credits awarded including grades if applicable.
    • If approved, the documentation must be complete and submitted to the ACPL staff no later than the 6th week of the quarter for processing in the current quarter. Complete documentation and forms received after the 6th week will be processed in the following quarter.
    • Transferability of non-traditional credit courses is determined by the receiving institution.
  • Fees

    • There is a $30 per credit fee for Academic Credit for Prior Learning that must be paid in full before credit is awarded.
    • There is an additional $75 per course fee for Course Challenges and Portfolio Reviews.  This must be paid before the evaluation can take place.
    • Financial Aid generally can't be used to pay ACPL fees
    • All applicable fees must be paid prior to course assessment and/or transcription.

  • Supporting Documentation

    You must provide supporting documentation demonstrating your mastery of the course outcomes for credit evaluation. Documentation could include, but is not limited to, certificates, resumes, letters of recommendation describing your work experience, transcripts, etc.
